Glass Sunroom Allows for Expanded Use
Although it provided some protection from flying insects, this old screened-in porch in Berlin, MD, offered little protection from the elements. Because of this, the homeowners got only limited use from it.
Wanting to use the space more often, they contacted Patio Enclosures® of Glen Burnie, MD, about replacing the screens with glass. Design Consultant Jamey Lee met with the couple in their home to see and measure the existing structure and offer suggestions and recommendations.
Using the existing deck and roof structure, Jamey and the in-house engineers at Patio Enclosures designed a lovely sunroom to provide three-season living space for the owners. The couple chose the Elite model of three-season room which offers some upgraded features.
For added security, the Elite sunroom adds a secondary night latch to the standard dual-point throw-bolt locking system. The night latch, which sets a third throw-bolt into the master frame, allows the doors and windows to be opened for ventilation while still remaining locked and secure. Also, because the night latch is located high on the door, it can prevent small children from opening the door.
Another enhanced feature of Patio Enclosures Elite three-season room, is the interlock sash which is added to the standard advanced weatherlock. Our uniquely designed, larger interlock gently pulls the sashes together at the meeting rail when the door is rolled closed, setting the weather-stripping for an airtight fit. The cool, air conditioned air stays in and the hot, muggy air stays out!
Though they chose single-paned glass for their sunroom to protect them from rain, wind and insects, the room can later be upgraded to insulated double-paned glass to extend the seasons. Because Patio Enclosures manufactures every sunroom in their own facility near Cleveland, Ohio, each one is custom made to the exact specifications required. No fillers or extra caulking are used to force a stock size into your custom space.
The white frame of the sunroom matches the trim of the home, complementing the existing architecture and increasing the value of their home. The homeowners are certainly enjoying the expanded use they are getting from their new glass sunroom.
