Albany Home Additions Before & After - 3 Homes & 3 Additions

In this post you will learn …

Albany's weather is influenced by everything from the Finger Lakes to the Eastern Seaboard. Unfortunately, that sometimes means shortened seasons, leaving you less time to enjoy the outdoors. Some homeowners in Albany have found just the right remedy for that problem with solariums and sunrooms from their local Patio Enclosures design center.

Included below are three home additions that Mr. and Mrs. O. have had Patio Enclosures build on their homes over the years. Their first sunroom addition was on their home in Scotia. They enjoyed their traditional sunroom so much, that they had Patio Enclosures build sunroom additions on their next two homes! Learn more about how these Albany homeowners have used additions to maximize square footage and to extend their living spaces, as well as their seasons.

Custom-Built Sunroom in Scotia

Before and after sunroom in Scotia

On their home in Scotia, the couple wanted to add a traditionally-framed sunroom. What they originally thought would be a tough project to match the 1950s style and hip roof of the house, turned out to be a breeze. They chose a roof, shingles, siding and paint to perfectly complement the existing brick on their house.

The details of the transformation are exquisite. The traditional sunroom was built around a bow window, which was later removed to provide direct access to their added oasis. Their new space is well-insulated and boasts windows fortified with triple-pane glass, the perfect combination for energy efficiency and comfort to enjoy all year long.

After the sunroom was constructed, an unscreened deck was added to the front of the room. This afforded them the perfect balance of indoor/outdoor living. On beautiful New York days, they could sit outside on their deck; but when cooler days encroached, they used their sunroom to still enjoy nature while keeping out of the elements.

Sprawling Solarium in Schoharie County

Before and after solarium in Schoharie

Sometimes pre-planning pays off. When the couple was designing and constructing their new home in Esperance, N.Y, they already had an idea for a solarium to be built later. Early in the design stage, they planned to use the French doors they installed as an access for a solarium addition at a later date.

When designing their solarium, the homeowners knew they wanted to make the most of their surroundings and accented their solarium with a spectacular glass roof. Because energy efficiency and safety are of utmost importance to the owners, they were especially pleased to note their installers made every effort to “ensure there were no issues or concerns regarding strength, durability and weather tightness.”

This custom glass roof design let them enjoy the lush nature around them during the day and go stargazing at night. It even provided their indoor plants with sunlight to flourish. A deck and stairs were added for quick and easy access to the backyard and to provide more outdoor living space. To add the finishing touches to their solarium, complementary paint colors and materials were used to match their existing home.

Concrete Patio to Sun Transformation in Duanesburg

Before and after sunroom addition

When the couple bought a new home in Duanesburg, New York; it had a small, screened- in porch. With a little vision and some help from their Albany-area Patio Enclosures Team, they transformed their enclosed porch with a cold, concrete patio into a stunning sunroom they could use all year long.

In order to make the most use of their space, they installed expansive, strong tempered glass windows and doors around the existing concrete patio. This allowed them to enjoy their natural surroundings while opening up and brightening their existing living space. These windows and doors were then precisely weather-sealed to ensure that none of the Albany elements could get in.

Once the sunroom was finished with a wooden floor and a brick framing, an open-air deck was added. This walkout deck expanded their outdoor area with a refined space for gardening, grilling and entertaining.

With just a little help from their local Patio Enclosures team, these homeowners were able to transform their existing homes into inviting living spaces so they can enjoy their new additions throughout every kind of Albany climate.
